Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. was organized on November 12, 1922 at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana by seven schoolteachers. The charter members were Mary Lou Allison Little, Dorothy Hanley Whiteside, Vivian White Marbury, Nannie Mae Gahn Johnson, Hattie Mae Dulin Redford, Bessie Mae Downey Martin, and Cubena McClure. These seven ladies are our seven lovely pearls? the founders of Sigma Gamma Rho.

Sisterhood, Scholarship, and Service
Sigma Gamma Rho offers its members many opportunities to develop their unique talents through leadership roles, philanthropy, and other sorority activities. Sigma women are dedicated to helping one another, the community, and our future. In dedication to our seven founders, Sigma Gamma Rho is committed to promoting the precepts of education and high scholastic achievements. Our commitment to dedication is reflected within many of our philanthropy projects which include: Operation Big Book Bag, Project Wee Savers, Program for Africa, Mwanamugimu Essay Writing, and Habitat for Humanity to name a few.

The state of emptiness… I had been so empty. I was disgusted. I couldn’t pray. I wouldn’t pray. I had nothing to give.

So knowing that I was in need I sought the answer. Do I need counseling because life is a whale that has swallowed me up? Do I need time alone? Do I need alcohol or drugs to numb the pain? What can I do to be full again?

I called 2 very spiritual ladies. Both calls I said one thing… ____________, could you please pray for me? Both ladies (being black women who are nosey) said Girl, what is wrong? I said both times I am empty! So the first lady proceeded to pray to God on my behalf. I felt 33% better. I wasn’t empty anymore. So I called the second lady. Same beginning of conversation… But it hurt her that I was empty. She cried, THEN got herself together and prayed for both of us! So now I was 33% more better amounting to 66%. God blessed me but I needed more. I have to get the rest from the inside of me so with advice in my head and a desire in my heart I begin.

You see my mom is sick. She has been in the hospital for three weeks, across the state line, (this time). Two of those weeks she was sleep and non-responsive. My husband and I were disagreeing and I like to think of him as perfect cause he is a preacher so when he got over the disagreement… I was still there! (Tehehehehe) Crazy how we are unforgiving people. But the issue for me is that when he falls I fall… You will only understand if you been there.

Anyhow, I need to be full because people are depending on me and I need to have something to give.

Dear God, fill me again. Save me. Forgive me. Heal me. Heal my mom. Heal my marriage. Heal my husband. Thank you for loving me and keeping me. Amen.

Look up and Live…

Life is full of BUSY days. What do you do for peace? Where do you go for peace? My husband preached a sermon last week entitled, “Look up and Live,” the sermon told of biblical stories of desire, hope, faith etc., it was full of life. I am learning that God is the source of all peace… and peace starts within you! So as I prepare for spring break, (Thank You LORD!) my reflection is on peace. being settled. being productive. being me.

I Hope and Pray all is well in your life… Be tremendously blessed.
